Kia EV2 Makes Global Debut as Brand Pushes Further into Compact Electric Market

Kia has officially introduced its smallest fully electric SUV, the EV2, at the 2026 Brussels Motor Show, marking a significant step in the company’s mission to make electric mobility more accessible. The compact model arrives as the sixth dedicated EV in Kia’s line up and is aimed squarely at driver

The EV2 has been developed with urban environments in mind, particularly for European buyers who prioritise manoeuvrability and efficiency. Early previews and design briefings had already hinted at its upright stance, vertical LED lighting, and clean, modern lines, all of which are reflected in the production model. Its compact footprint places it in the B‑SUV class, yet Kia has focused on delivering interior space that feels a class above, something the company highlighted during the unveiling.

Inside, the EV2 adopts Kia’s latest minimalist cabin philosophy. While the concept version featured rear‑hinged doors, production models stick to conventional ones, but the simplified layout and emphasis on usability remain key themes. Test prototypes suggest a streamlined dashboard with digital displays and the same user‑friendly interface found in Kia’s newer EVs.

Affordability is a core part of the EV2’s mission. Kia is positioning it as an entry point into its electric line up, particularly for new EV buyers or households looking for a second run‑around vehicle. Early expectations suggest pricing will start around £25,000, making it one of the more attainable battery‑powered small SUVs on the market.

Kia has confirmed that the EV2 will be built in Slovakia and sold across Europe, Korea, and select global regions. However, it’s unlikely to reach North America, where the slightly larger EV3 will take on the role of an accessible electric model.

Although full technical specifications are still to come, Kia has disclosed that the EV2 will offer two battery types: a more affordable LFP pack and a longer‑range NCM option. Industry reports indicate that the model may deliver up to around 300 km on a single charge, putting it squarely in the sweet spot for urban commuters. Fast‑charging capability - roughly 10–80% in about half an hour - is also expected, along with Kia’s vehicle‑to‑load (V2L) functionality for powering small devices and appliances.

At the Brussels unveiling, Kia indicated the EV2 could achieve up to 448 km of range depending on configuration, though that figure will vary between markets and certification cycles. Production of the standard‑range model begins in the first quarter of 2026, with long‑range and GT Line variants to follow later in the year.

Alongside the EV2, Kia used the Brussels stage to showcase performance‑oriented GT variants of several other electric models, underscoring the brand’s confidence in the future of its EV portfolio. The EV2 is shaping up to become a key player for drivers looking to make the jump to electric without sacrificing practicality or blowing the budget.
