Howards Honda in Weston-super-Mare helped support Worle Community School participate in the Honda School of Dreams workshop this week (22-23 October 2013). The free two-day workshop acted as a ‘thinking’ exercise for pupils aged 9-13 and was attended by students from years 7,8 and 9 from Worle Community School, and year 6 students from Mead Vale Primary, Locking Primary and St Martin’s Primary Schools.
The workshop was also attended by Philip Hathway, Sales Managers at Howards Honda, said;
“It was a fantastic 2 days, I am sure I got just as much out of it as the pupils.”
The School of Dreams workshop aims to encourage young people establish their passions and goals, and build on their skills in order to fulfil their dreams. Developed by Honda UK and a team of education experts, the scheme is designed to give back to the community and allow students and educators to carry out and change something in the local community. The scheme has been mapped against the National Curriculum to ensure that students get of much out of the programme as possible.
Andrew Donald, Assistant Head Teacher at Worle Community School, who attended the workshop said;
“School of Dreams is an excellent two-day workshop that complements and extends Personal Learning and Thinking Skills and Key Skills in both Secondary and Primary schools. Students enjoyed fun, interactive and multi-sensory learning activities within mixed Key Stage 2 and 3 teams. The core learning of the Honda School of Dreams is to encourage all participants – students and staff – to work towards and try to achieve their dreams ‘by doing’. All resources used, including media clips, PowerPoint presentations and worksheets are then given to staff who can then share and use them in their curriculum at their respective home school.”
At the end of the two-day course, students are asked to share what they’ve learnt and do a presentation on their team projects. A project will then be chosen and a Honda representative will act as a mentor to help make their project happen.
At Howards, we are delighted to support the local community. Philip Hathway, from Howards Honda in Weston-super-Mare, added;
“It is great to support the workshop in our local school. To help children understand they can turn their dreams into reality by learning to use strategies in their early lives will undoubtedly have a positive effect on the local community. We believe children and young adults deserve all the help they can get.”
The School of Dreams programme has been running for the past seven years and around 10,000 students and educators have taken part in the workshop. The workshop aims to encourage students to share their ideas and what they have learnt in the programme and, through this, it is estimated that around 30,000 more students will have benefited from the School of Dreams legacy.
