    Howards Motor Group Shining Stars

    Howards are delighted to share our Shining Stars for Christmas 2023, chosen to receive a significant donation from Howards Motor Group.

Our chosen organisations for this years donation are Taunton Foodbank, The Salvation Army Weston-Super-Mare Food Parcels, The Salvation Army Yeovil Christmas Toy Appeal, Somerset & Dorset Animal Rescue, and Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance. Throughout December our team have been visiting these organisations and meeting some of the amazing team members.

Our first visit was to Weston-Super-Mare Salvation Army to deliver a large food donation, to help make sure food parcels can be distributed to families in the community for Christmas. In over 650 communities across the UK, The Salvation Army will be doing all they can for them, whatever their circumstances.

Gemma, Howards Group Marketing Manager was on hand to deliver the goods and chat to the team. It was a pleasure to meet the team and see the fantastic work they put in, not only at Christmas but all year round for local families.

Our next Shining Star donation was for Yeovil Salvation Army Christmas Toy appeal. Last year, the Salvation Army appeal distributed more than 76,000 gifts, and this year, they are expecting the number of families requesting help to rise as a result of the cost of living crisis.  

Our team spent time collating and shopping around for the perfect toys and delivered them to the Salvation Army Church in Yeovil. Our third visit was from Taunton Foodbank, as we made a large food donation, contributing towards their cause to make sure that no one in the local community has to go hungry. The Foodbank team visited our Weston-Super-Mare head office to meet with Howards Executive Director Jonathan. 

Taunton foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in the local area. They are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. Our next visit was from Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, to present them with our cheque donation. Chris, our Managing Director was on hand to present the cheque and meet the team. We were lucky enough that one of the paramedic crew from the Air Ambulance was available to join us, and speak about her role in the organisation and how donations can help. 

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance provides life-saving, pre-hospital critical care, to patients in need. They are our local air ambulance charity, a vital part of the community and rely on our support. The service they provide is 95% funded by charitable giving. Our final Shining Star visit was to Dorset and Somerset Animal Rescue, to deliver our donations of animal food, bedding and equipment. In the 30 years of running a rescue centre they have managed to home over 38,000 animals and birds and give each one a bright new future. 

The rescue is run entirely by non-wage volunteers who juggle their full time jobs with the care of over 60 animals. Our team including Gemma, Howards Marketing Manager, was on hand to deliver the donations and meet some of the animals, showing just how important donations are to the organisation. Because of the support from our customers, we are privileged to be able to give back to our communities in Weston-Super-Mare, Taunton, Yeovil and Dorchester and make a difference to some very worthy causes. Throughout the year, we have helped initiatives at nearby schools, hospices, emergency services and many more. And now at Christmas, we're thrilled to donate to five more local charities.
