Leapmotor Unveils Sporty B05 Electric Hatchback at Munich Show
Design & Positioning
Styled as a sporty, coupe‑like C‑segment hatch, the B05 is crafted to appeal to younger, urban drivers. It features:
A “Tech‑Nature Aesthetic” blend of futuristic and grounded design principles.
Frameless doors and attention‑grabbing 19‑inch “Swift‑Wing” alloy wheels.
Exterior dimensions of 4,430 mm long, 1,880 mm wide, 1,520 mm tall, with a 2,735 mm wheelbase—making it comparable in size to vehicles like the VW ID.3 and VW Golf
Six bold colour options, including names like Lightning Yellow, further emphasising its trend-forward appeal.
Powertrain & Tech
Leapmotor has confirmed the B05 is fully electric and built on its LEAP 3.5 modular architecture, the same platform used in its B-series models like the recently launched B10 SUV. The B05 features rear-wheel drive and a balanced 50:50 weight distribution for improved handling. There are no confirmed specs yet; official figures for performance, battery, range, and charging capabilities are still pending.
A Glimpse Without the Full Reveal
At the Munich unveiling, the Leapmotor B05 was showcased with obscured windows, a clear signal that the interior design is still under wraps. Leapmotor has yet to confirm when full interior details will be released, but with Chinese market launch set for Q4 2025 and European deliveries planned for mid-2026, we can expect a more complete reveal, including cabin specs and trim options, sometime later this year. Until then, the mystery adds a layer of anticipation, particularly for buyers keen to know how the B05 compares on interior quality to European staples.
Who is Leapmotor?
Leapmotor is a Chinese electric car company that builds smart, affordable electric vehicles. It was founded in 2015 and makes many of its own parts, like batteries and motors. In 2023, Leapmotor formed a partnership with Stellantis — the global car group that owns brands like Peugeot, Fiat, and Vauxhall. Stellantis invested in the company and now helps Leapmotor sell and build its cars in countries outside of China through a joint venture called Leapmotor International.
What This Means for You
If you're someone who’s been holding out for an electric car that balances affordability, style, and everyday practicality, the Leapmotor B05 might be the breakthrough you've been waiting for. With its sleek, youthful design, likely competitive range, and a price tag aimed at undercutting European rivals, it represents a real shift in what EV buyers can expect — especially in the compact hatchback segment. Whether you're commuting in the city, looking for a sustainable second car, or simply want to move away from rising fuel costs without sacrificing comfort or tech, the B05 could offer a compelling alternative. And with Leapmotor now backed by Stellantis, there's increasing confidence that parts, service, and long-term support will be more robust than what we’ve seen from some earlier Chinese EV entrants.
