    Felix Baumgartner Chases A 1000hp Toyota GT 86 In A Helicopter

    Have a look at the Toyota GT 86 staring in the new Red Bull Heli Drifting performance featuring Felix Baumgartner.

You may have seen the legendary Felix Baumgartner freefalling from space hitting speeds over 800mph as part of the Red Bull Stratos mission back in 2012. He’s back, but this time showing his skills off flying a helicopter in the new Red Bull Heli Drifting performance.

The Toyota GT 86 was driven by Jakub Przygoński a professional drifter from Poland. The objective was for Felix who was strapped in to his Bolkov B0105, to track the Toyota’s movement in sync and in perfect harmony whilst getting as close as possible to the car.

Jakub’s Toyota GT 86 is a purpose-built drift car, lightweight chassis with a very hefty specification. The engine is a Turbocharged 3.4-litre VVTi BC with extra DirectPort Nitrous Oxide Injection adding 325hp; altogether putting out a total of 1068bhp. The six-speed transmission combined with a triple disc clutch enables the car to have incredible neck-braking acceleration reaching 0-100km/h in 3.4 secs and 0-200km/h in just 6 seconds! 

A large amount of space was needed to make this very impressive performance a reality; therefore it was filmed at former Polish Air Force base Debrzno Airfield. This location proved to be the best place to coordinate the performance and plan the attack with the film crew Felix described it as the “biggest playground in the world.”    

Not only was the safety of Felix and Jakub relying on the helicopter being in perfect harmony with the car but the camera crew were also putting their necks on the line. Capturing all the footage was not an easy task especially when there were a few moments when the helicopter was close to knocking the camera off the car’s roof!
