Looking to blend category leading interior space,
stylish design and hi-tech features, the i20 by Hyundai is set to grow the already
impressive European market sales in 2015.
Built on a new larger than ever platform, the i20 presents
an impressive appearance that is both visibly and practically more spacious. Flexibility
is a dimension Hyundai have looked to maximise when considering how the i20
delivers a spacious ride. There’s ample space for luggage and five adult passengers,
with the boot capacity increased by over 30 litres to nearly 330 on the
previous model. Smart storage is found throughout the cabin with the boot
expandable to over 1000 litres through folding the seats and making use of the
double boot floor (perfect for concealing those valuables).
As well as all this additional room Hyundai have aimed at providing a
vast array of choice when it comes to customising the style of the i20, both
inside and out. There are nine exterior shades and 4 interior trims available,
including a leather option. Chrome detailing in the cabin adds a touch of class
and shows the level of investment Hyundai have committed to. Four overall trims
will be available; the Access, Comfort, Panorama and LED, the latter being the
top spec.
Technology wise the i20 is not so much a step but a
leap forward for Hyundai’s supermini range. The 7” infortainment screen
presents the satnav at an optimum touching distance for the driver and keeps
everyone entertained, with the smartphone docking and “My Music” feature
providing 1GB of music storage. The first in the category to come equipped with
lane departure warning, both visual and audible warnings are activated if the
driver veers off course.
Two petrol and two diesel engines will be available,
with the entry model providing up to 83bhp from a 1.25 litre hub. For more
power the 1.4 litre delivers 99bhp, that’s 0-62mph in 11.6 seconds.
Alternatively, the two diesel engines come in a 1.1 litre (74bhp) or 1.4 litre
(89bhp) version, with a new eco-centric 1 litre three cylinder turbo engine
being pencilled in after initial launch.
Hyundai expect the new i20 to be ready for the
showroom in the early New Year.
