New 2017 Honda Civic: What can we expect from the new model?

Honda’s almighty Civic is one of the brand's most iconic models, and fans are starting to get very excited about a new release just around the corner. The new Civic is planned to be built in the UK and for its 2017 debut, it's been given a fresh new sporty design!

The concept for the 2017 Honda Civic was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show at the beginning of March this year, which has given fans everywhere an insight into what we can expect from this new model.

The Civics’ recognisable unique shape has changed, and the family hatch has lost the current versions high back and instead, features a lower roof and steeper rear screen. The bonnet on the new model is a lot longer, and it comes with an even sportier bumper.

The rear of this model features central exhaust pipes, these suggest that the 2017 Civic might be a faster Type S R model. At the back, you can see the new striking boomerang-shaped rear headlights - a new addition to the model. The front, features large air intakes and short overhangs, along with new headlamps giving this model an uplifted look.

To add to the model’s sporty exterior, Honda has given the body sculpted lines which run down the length of the car on each side; these finish at the back door handles and emphasise the rear haunches.

Very little information has been revealed about the interior of the 2017 Honda Civic, but some sources say it’s been ergonomically designed with the driver in mind, featuring a sleek dashboard and a central touchscreen. Even though the concept car in these images is only for modelling purposes, it gives us a clear perception of what the 2017 Honda Civic will look like both inside and out when it finally hits showrooms in February next year. More information about the interior, exterior and specifications will be revealed by Honda, closer to the Feb 2017 release date.

Auto Express were granted an early interview with Honda’s chief designer to find out more information about the 10th newcomer. Principal designer, Diasuke Tsutamori told Auto Express: “This prototype is already on a very close level to mass production. When you see the final car, you will probably think it’s still the prototype.”

Will Honda be releasing a Civic Type R model?

There’s been no confirmation yet on whether a hotter 10th-generation Honda Civic Type R model will happen, but in his interview with Auto Express Tsutamori hinted that it's certainly something Honda are considering.

“You can take it as a fact that this Civic hatchback already has enough material and talent in order to make a Type R out of it”, he said.

At the moment, we’ll have to patiently wait and see what further information Honda announces about the 2017 Civic in the lead up to its release. Keep an eye out on our Facebook and news section for updates on this model.
