Honda’s 2016 Accord Will Feature Apple CarPlay And Android Auto Systems
Japanese car manufacturer Honda, has recently revealed their new 2016 Accord. On the exterior it has been given fresh new lines around the bodywork with both the headlights and taillights incorporating design elements from Acura. The engine options include a 2.4-litre 4 cylinder and 3.5- litre V6 paired with a CVT or a 6-speed manual/automatic gearbox. Honda’s inspiration for the Accord is technology, and it has sparked lots of interest with the built-in Apple CarPlay and Android Auto packages set up in a unique dual screen layout.
What is Apple CarPlay & Android Auto?
The introduction of the Apple CarPlay & Android Auto software packages came from the initiative to make driving with a mobile phone smarter and safer. The two highly competitive software packages are battling for dominance as they are both being introduced into new vehicles from manufacturers all around the world. All you need to do is connect your phone to the car via USB cable and the dashboard screen will become your smart phone. Therefore the functionality can be controlled by either touchscreen on the dashboard or knob controls in the centre console effectively turning the car into a ‘smart car’.
Is the system user-friendly?
Having rivalling Apple CarPlay and Google Auto packages in one system may sound like the recipe for disaster but it’s far from it. Apple and Google are both known for creating flexible and interactive software interfaces - this is better than car manufacturers creating their own infotainment package which could lack functionality as they are complex to develop. Most of us are familiar with either Apple iOS or Google Android devices so the user-friendliness is not compromised and both packages work together seamlessly.
How does it all work in the 2016 Honda Accord?
Honda has their own unique approach utilising two separate LCD screens – one placed on the top of the dashboard and another just below. The majority of the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality will operate on the 7-inch lower screen with touchscreen capabilities. Apps such as Maps, Phone, Messages, Music and many others can also be controlled through voice command. While the upper screen will mainly be step-by-step satellite navigation and will show some information such as the current audio track playing giving you plenty of information between the two screens.
The release date and pricing of the new Honda Accord has not yet been specified, however it has been confirmed that the new Accord will only be available in America on its release. It seems we may be missing out on the fun but you can keep an eye out for more info on our Howard’s Honda News page!
