Saturday 25th Oct saw Howards Motor Group attend and provide the main sponsorship for “Neon 5”, joining Weston Hospicecare in the invasion of Weston Woods to light up the sky all in the name of a good cause.
Hoping to raise £30 000, over 500 people descended to explore a 5K route through the forest in their brightest neon clothes, with everyone helping to shine a light on the fantastic service Weston Hospicecare provides to the local community. Separating the wood into different themed zones, including Space Odyssey, Retro Revival and Electric Avenue, party music, lasers, smoke machines and plenty of props provided lots of interaction along the way, with local performers captivating with glow in the dark circus skills. Everyone had a fantastic time, with a full photo library available on their Facebook page.
Neon 5 brought people together for a variety of reasons, to remember loved ones, have a great time and perhaps most importantly to raise awareness and funds for a hospice that delivers such vital support to 1 in 100 Somerset residents. Founded in 1989, Weston Hospicecare provides physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual care for local people with life limiting diseases, including cancer, heart and lung failure and motor neurone disease. Weston Hospicecare consists of a day hospice, a ten bed In-Patient Unit, Hospice Community Nurse Specialists, a home service, chaplaincy and bereavement care that all work in harmony to ensure both patients and their families are fully cared for and reassured throughout their journey. Costing over £3 million to fund each year, under 20% of this is provided by the NHS, placing even more emphasis on fundraising events, business partnerships and Hospice shops that all help to keep this valuable support network in place for the local community.
If you are interested in getting involved with any fundraising activities for Weston Hospicecare, their event calendar offers a rundown of what they have planned in the near future, including an All 60s Night this coming weekend at Weston-super-Mare Football Club.
